The Year of the Alphabet

As I mentioned in my lil blurb, this year I’m trying lots of new things. I’m calling the Year of the Alphabet. One of my dear friends calls it my alphabet soup shit – take your pick.
It all started on a warm mid-summer afternoon. One of my best friends, Olivia, and I went to acupuncture (DC folk, check out Little Bird Community Acupuncture!) in Adams Morgan and then popped over to The Potter’s House for some afternoon coffee and friend time.
We’ve known each other move-in day our freshman year of college. We lived next door to each other in our residence hall and have been friends every since. She’s an incredibly creative, kind, and brilliant person so any adventure with her is going to be a fun one. (Somewhere in the depths of Google Drive, there is raw, home footage of our road trip to Boston…somewhere around hour 8 of the drive.)
Anyway, as we were sitting in the coffee shop, Olivia told me about this idea she’s had. Turning 25 is exciting and big and celebratory. Turning 26, while still exciting, doesn’t seem to have the same pizzaz that 25 had. But! There are 26 letters of the alphabet…what if we did something (or two or three things) we’ve always wanted to do for each letter of the alphabet.
And that, folks, is the story of how my Year of the Alphabet was born.
I’m all about doing things – new things, challenging things, wild and crazy things. Doesn’t matter. Somehow this list fell into all of those categories. Some of the letters were going to challenge me, most were going to be new, and some were absolutely wild and crazy. The only guidelines I gave myself were that I had to feel comfortable with whatever the activity was and that it had to be attainable. My S activity has the biggest stretch simply because it’ll require some travel and planning: shark cage diving.
A lot of the letters have ongoing activities – dancing (D), learning about basic car maintenance (A), watching more movies (F), live music 1x/month (L); some have one activity – quilt my college shirts (Q), complete an escape room with my friends (E).
The list had to be ready by my birthday, November 14, but as the universe had it, I decided to start on November 1st. Over the course of this year, when I refer to the Year of the Alphabet, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
What activities would your list be comprised of?
